The Septuagint (or "LXX", or "Greek Old Testament") is a translation of the Hebrew Old Testament and certain Apocrypha, which was sponsored according to tradition in the late 3rd century BC by Ptolemy II Philadelphus, the king of Ptolemaic Egypt (283 BC to 246 BC). The Greek translation was originally created for use by the Alexandrian Jews who were fluent in Koine Greek, but not in Hebrew. Thus the Septuagint is sometimes called the "Apostle's Bible" and the one that Jesus and his disciples would have had access to. It is quoted in the New Testament by writers such as the Apostle Paul, and remained the Scripture of use by the Apostolic Fathers. The translation of the Septuagint into English by Sir Lancelot C. L. Brenton was first published in 1851 and was based primarily upon the Codex Vaticanus, one of the oldest extant manuscripts of the Greek Bible. It remains the standard of use by many scholars and students of Scripture and history. Contained in this volume (The Researchers Library of Ancient Texts Volume III): The English Translation of the Greek Septuagint Bible, Including the Apocrypha

Books are different colors
I ordered Book 2 last year and I enjoyed it so ordered Books 1 and 3 last week. The quality of all 3 are about the same but I was very disappointed that these new ones were an absolutely noticeable different color.

Very interesting reading. Since this was the Bible used by Jesus and his apostles, it seems very hard to argue against its value. In my opinion these writings--along with I Enoch, Jasher and Jubilees--are invaluable in truly understanding our Bible today. Since many of the books of our Bible were written to a knowing audience, many background anecdotes, etc, are simply left out. Enoch, Jasher and Jubilees are recommended and quoted by several authors of our Canon and provide useful information which is often indispensable for understanding the Scriptures.

I’ve only learned of late about the conflicts between various scrolls, pages, books, etc. I’ve always heard that they were there but never studied it on my own.
Now just about 99% of current bibles are based on the Masoretic text. Which came out of Rabbinic Judaism around the second century. It was edited by Reb Akiba who really had a hatred for Yeshua and Him being the Messiah. But prior to the Masoretic text there was one older. Like 300-400 years earlier. I’m sure many of you have heard of it. It’s called the Septuagint. Or you may see it labeled as LXX.
The differences are quite significant and numerous. I’m not going to ruin your research by giving you the details. All I can really say is to get this edition and read it through and through. Then read it some more. You will be astounded about what you find. If you read Yahweh’s Word get the one that hasn’t been “edited” to disprove Yeshua’s existence. Shalom

The Setuagint text translation has the very best chronology throughout the bible. The Masoretic text was altered by Rabbis within the first couple of centuries because it attested to the accurate timing of the coming of the Jewish Messiah, Jesus Christ, Whom the Rabbis rejected.

See S. Douglas Woodward's books, "Rebooting the Bible, Parts 1 & 2" for his detailed research on the subject.

The major chronological timelines used the Masoretic text and this there are serious conflicts with Egyptian and other eastern countries chronology.

Very interesting and I love comparing it with my other Bibles to see what is the same and how much it has been changed . VERY heavy book and kind of cumbersome to read because of that but well worth taking the time to do ! Fast shipping by this company , my only complaint would be that someone owned the book previously and wrote extensive notes throughout .

Wish it had printed what book I was in so I wouldn't have to find the beginning of each book to find the right chapter.

I was recommended this book by someone that is instructing me (an I've been researching too), and told me the Septuagint is the closest to the Hebrew texts.
Easy read and the print is nice to read; I also like the fact that my highlighter does not bleed through the thick pages, a BIG plus for me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I required
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 18, 2017
This is exactly what I require for cross reference purposes. The print is excellent and clear. The only downside to this book as with previous volumes is there aren’t any page headers. So you have to locate the beginning of the book and move forward through it until you find what you are looking for. Easily solved with a pencil but it’s just an inconvenience to myself. Some people may be put off.
But, again for the requirements I was looking for this version is perfect.
