I Will Even Make A Way In The Wilderness, And The Rivers In The Desert.

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19).

There comes a time in every Christian’s life, usually numerous times throughout one’s life, that a change is on the horizon. Often, what accompanies this change, this new thing that God is doing in our lives, is anxiety and fear for the future. Typically, even before it arrives, we can feel that a season of change is coming. We can sense it deep down in our spirit. Therefore, the fear is more about the unknown, then the change itself. Other-times we find ourselves in a place or situation where change is needed, but we don’t know how to go about causing it, or even what change to make. We just know it has to happen. There are also times when God disrupts our comfort, forcing us to change direction. This can come in various forms. A job loss, a financial disaster or a child becomes prodigal. These crises in our lives, these changes, can seem impossible to navigate. We began to ask ourselves, “can God make a way?” We might even ask a more difficult question, “is God willing to make a way?”

It all comes down to faith. It is in these moments, these challenges, tribulations, and times of upheaval that we discover what we truly believe. This might be the very purpose of the trial, to cause us to go deeper into our well of faith and draw all the more closer to our Lord.

We do indeed serve a God who can make a way in the harshest of wildernesses and create great rivers in the driest of deserts. We are told by our Lord, Jesus that with just a muster-seed of faith we can move mountains and that nothing will be impossible for us. (Matthew 17:20). However, there is an action required on our part. We must trust, we must believe, and we must remain patient.

“Lord, I believe; help my unbelief! Lord Jesus, I may not understand what is happening in my life right now, but I vow to trust you in all things. O Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of everything! Amen.
