While God Will Never Let You Down, Your Expectations Will

If I’ve had to come to terms with one painful reality in life, it’s this. While God will never let you down, your expectations will. Your expectations and personal desires will let you down and leave you empty. The expectations you put on your spouse or on your children, even the expectations you have on what God should be doing in your life will inevitably fail you. The expectations you put on your job and your hobbies, they will let you down. Your flesh will never be satisfied. It will never be enough. Even if you get that thing, that result, or that moment of pleasure, you will find you’re still empty, still lacking, and still in need. Your flesh is like a hungry monstrous beast, and there isn’t enough food in all the universe to feed it to satisfaction. The only way to overcome this beast is to starve it. Want true happiness? True joy? Love others and believe them to be more valuable than yourself. Love others without any expectation of a return of investment. Love God with all your heart, mind and soul. Put your needs, your wants and your desires last. Put Christ and the needs of other first. Then you will know happiness, then you will know joy.

Does this really work you might ask? I’m afraid no human being on earth can answer the question, because save Christ, no one has been so bold, so selfless as to do it.

And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 2 Corinthians 5:15 King James Version (KJV)

  1. while the scriptures are essential to our understanding of reality, of time, and of the spiritual hierarchy, there are pressing modern problems that cannot be adequately understood from only that angle.

i was also born in1981. i believe it is the duty of our generation, the reason for our existence here on earth, to ensure that certain historical questions are answered correctly. it is only upon a solid foundation of historical truth that the kingdom of God is to be built.
